An account of the happenings of eight Iowa State students in the Capitol City spreading the love of Jesus by serving others and experiencing homelessness first hand.
I'm Doug, the self-proclaimed Fearless Leader of this little excursion. I'm a sophomore at Iowa State, studying Journalism and Religious Studies. I like dogs, poetry, long walks on the beach, and...whoa...sorry, I got a little carried away there. Anyway, I've been really looking forward to this trip. I am super excited to see what God has in store for the team in Washington. Well, that's about it. Oh, and p.s. - I'll be doing a lot of the blog entries, so stay tuned!
Butterfingers
My name is Bridget Horan, co-leader of the trip and originally from Eagan, MN. I'm a sophomore Construction Engineering major at Iowa State. I earned the handle "Butterfingers" by causing a three-beverage chain reaction at Wendy's near the start of our trip. I'm excited to spend the week serving the homeless of DC, and especially to experience homelessness personally for 2 days.
Wendy
My name is Kendra Kavan and as excited as I am for this trip, I am slightly less enthusiastic about Doug's photography skills (aka this pic is AWFUL!). Doug also assigned me the handle "Wendy" (quite the dictator, isn't he?), but just so you know, I have chosen Wendy from Peter Pan as my fictional persona as opposed to the ginger fast food girl. I'm a sophomore at Iowa State in English, with an emphasis on rhetoric and professional communication (I'm going into publishing and editing), so I can't wait for the opportunity to write more about this trip! :)
Snuggie
Hi! My name is Brittany Tielbur. I am originally from Grinnell, IA, and I'm currently a freshman majoring in Biology at ISU. I'm super excited for our trip and to learn a little more about service and about the homelessness problem in our country.
Rubber Ducky
However amazing the nickname Rubber Ducky is, my real name is Denton Patrick. I'm a Freshman at Iowa State Pre-Med from Guthrie Center, good ole' American small town Iowa. When I'm not fighting crime I enjoy being active on campus and am always looking for the next involvement I can try to improve upon. I love my hugh, crazy, amazing, delicious Irish Catholic family. One get-together with them can scare away even the most outgoing of girlfriends. My faith life has been strongly instilled in me by my parents. I owe everything to them and feel like they set me up to be the best person that I'm capable of. On another note, I may be as excited for the plane ride as anything at all. I get pretty entranced by watching my body fly thousands of feet into the air. Homelessness plunge, here I come!!
Neopluradon
I am Frances,I am studying Cultral Anthropology. I like helping people. I hope I learn a lot from this trip.
Bubbles
I'm Matthew Kruse, a second year in mathematics, I haven't shaved in almost three weeks in preparation for this awesome trip. So i'm really looking forward to this expereince......and also a good shave.
Renegade
I'm Alex Anderson. I'm perfectly fine with Doug's photography skills. I never went on the 8th grade trip to Washington D.C., so I have to make up for lost times. I'm a freshman in Physics, and a member of Phi Kappa Theta, the Catholic Fraternity at Iowa State.
